Clifftop is the style Bali is most famous for internationally, and it's concentrated almost entirely on the Bukit peninsula in the island's south — Uluwatu, Ungasan and the surrounding headlands.
Why couples choose it
The appeal is simple: an uninterrupted ocean horizon, a hundred metres of elevation, and sunset light that arrives without anything blocking it. Glass chapels and open pavilions perched on the cliff edge have become the signature Bali wedding image, and they photograph like almost nowhere else.
These are also, generally, the island's most polished venues. Clifftop sites tend to belong to luxury resorts with experienced wedding teams, which means fewer logistical surprises — and higher prices.
What to know before booking
Wind is the defining factor. Elevation plus an open ocean aspect means near-constant breeze. It keeps guests comfortable and wreaks havoc on hair, veils, loose florals and lightweight décor. Every experienced Bukit venue plans for this; ask how.
Access. Some cliff venues involve significant stairs or an inclinator down to the ceremony point. If you have elderly guests or anyone with mobility needs, ask specifically about the walk from car park to ceremony to reception.
Sun position. A west-facing cliff at 4pm can put the sun directly in your guests' eyes. Venues that run weddings constantly will know the right ceremony time for your date — ask rather than assume.

Clifftop or beach?
They're often confused, and they're quite different days. Clifftop gives you the view and the drama, from above. Beach gives you the water itself, at eye level, and usually a more relaxed feel. Many Bukit resorts offer both — a cliff ceremony and a beach reception — which is worth asking about.
